Thoughts on following Jesus from our ministry staff…
Why It’s Hard to Own Your Mistakes
One reason people act this way is because their self-worth is based on a public image of excellence, meaning they can only feel good about themselves by projecting a (false) sense of perfection. Behind the veneer of their public confidence lies a deep insecurity about never being good enough. For them, owning up to their mistakes is too costly, because saying “I was wrong” undermines the foundation of their self-worth.

Learning to Lead by Serving the Master
This past week, our elders and ministers began a new Sunday morning class to help address that issue. This class is called “Follow the Leader: Learning to Lead by Serving the Master”, and it will focus on some key Biblical principles related to servant leadership. This isn’t just for people who have or want an official role in the church — it’s for everyone (male or female, young or old, new Christians or lifelong disciples) who wants to learn how they can be a more effective leader at home, in business, at school, or in the church.

Spiritual Rhythms
Spiritual rhythms are the small, consistent practices that keep our faith steady when life feels loud and chaotic. Practices like prayer, reading Scripture, worship, rest, and life in community help us stay connected to God—not just aware of Him on Sundays. They aren’t about being “extra spiritual” or checking boxes; they’re about intentionally making space for God in everyday life.
“Fanticipation”
But most times, the things that I “fanticipate” the most don’t seem so bad once I’ve gone through them. My brain tells me to avoid the situation at all costs, and that it will be devastating to endure. And sometimes I let my thoughts get the best of me. They control my life and don’t bring the peace for which I yearn.
Two Great Outreach Ministries
One of the things I personally love about World Bible School is that it’s a great way to connect people who love God and want to make disciples with people who are already seeking God and want to study the Bible. And since it’s all online, it’s an easy way for disciples of Jesus to get involved in leading people to Christ, even if your free time is limited.
Shaped By Community
Following Jesus was never meant to be a solo journey. From the very beginning, Jesus called people not just to believe, but to belong. He gathered disciples, shared meals, prayed together, worshiped together, and sent them out together. Christian community isn’t an optional add-on to faith—it’s essential to how we grow and live as followers of Christ.
Dangerous Isolation
The beginning of each year brings a time of reflection, which many use to plan new resolutions (plans to think or act a different way.) This may involve physical plans (exercise more, eat better) or spiritual ones (pray more often, read the Bible daily) and maybe even financial plans (spend less, or save up for that trip.)
But sometimes life gets messy, and we find ourselves dwelling not on the possibilities of the future, but on the difficulties of today.
The Gift of God’s Peace
The peace God offers us in Christ is more than just the absence of conflict. A better way of thinking about it is the presence of God’s goodness, even in the midst of difficult seasons of life. Biblical peace is about living under God’s blessings and experiencing life to the full (John 10:10), just as God intended before sin corrupted the world.
The Manger and the Cross
In 2004, Chris Rice released the song, “Welcome To Our World.” The whole song is fantastic, but the fourth verse really chokes me up...
Fragile finger sent to heal us
Tender brow prepared for thorn
Tiny heart whose blood will save us
Unto us is born, unto us is born
It Is More Blessed To Give Than To Receive
Over the next few weeks, I want to encourage you to be on the lookout for opportunities to bless other people in the name of Jesus. This will likely take some creativity and intentionality, so start each day praying for God to open the right doors for you to be a blessing. And remember, it doesn’t have to be something big. Mother Teresa once said “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”
