Spiritual Rhythms
Jacie and I try to keep consistent rhythms in our walk with Jesus. One of the most important things for us is getting up early—before Ezra wakes up—to sit together with coffee and read Scripture. Beginning our day this way centers us. On the mornings we miss it, the whole day feels off, like something important is missing.
This past week, Jacie started a new job, and it significantly disrupted our morning rhythm. Mondays and Wednesdays are now rushed, and we’re often just trying to get out the door on time. That disruption got me thinking about how much consistency matters in our spiritual lives and how deeply our rhythms shape our faith. So, here are a few thoughts on why spiritual rhythms matter.
Spiritual rhythms are the small, consistent practices that keep our faith steady when life feels loud and chaotic. Practices like prayer, reading Scripture, worship, rest, and life in community help us stay connected to God—not just aware of Him on Sundays. They aren’t about being “extra spiritual” or checking boxes; they’re about intentionally making space for God in everyday life.
Jesus modeled this kind of life. He regularly withdrew to pray, immersed Himself in God’s Word, and lived in close community with others. Those rhythms kept Him grounded, even in seasons of pressure and intensity. In the same way, spiritual rhythms help us stay rooted when stress, distractions, or doubts begin to pull at us.
Over time, these habits quietly shape who we’re becoming. You may not notice dramatic changes right away, but little by little, they form a faith that lasts. Spiritual rhythms don’t just fit into your life—they shape your life, helping you walk with God in the ordinary moments that matter most.
This week, I encourage you to take an honest look at the rhythms of your everyday life and consider where you might add a simple spiritual practice. Start small. Stay consistent. Trust that God will meet you there. I believe you’ll be blessed because of it.
