What kind of sermon are you preaching?
“I'd rather one should walk with me than merely tell the way.
The eye's a better pupil and more willing than the ear,
Fine counsel is confusing, but example's always clear;
And the best of all the preachers are the men who live their creeds,
For to see good put in action is what everybody needs.”

The idea behind this poem is essentially actions speak louder than words. What we say as Christians matters, a lot, and there are plenty of Bible passages that teach us to tame our tongues and be mindful of what we say. But what we do might matter even more. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches his disciples to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. In doing so, he calls them to live in such a way that other people will be able to see their good deeds and then glorify our Father in heaven (Matthew 5:13-16).
This week, let’s reflect on the kind of sermon that we’re preaching with our daily lives. When people see you at work, when your family interacts with you at home, or when you are engaging with people online, what kind of example are you setting? What are you communicating about your beliefs, values, and convictions? People are watching, especially the younger generations, and they are paying close attention to the messages we are sending with the example that we set. So, let’s strive to make the most of every opportunity we have to point people to Jesus!
