Every Crayon Brings Something Different To the Picture

As a children’s minister, I spend a lot of time with crayons, puzzles, and tiny voices that ask big questions. One of the most powerful truths I see over and over is this: God made us all different on purpose. Whether it’s personalities, perspectives, gifts, or stories—we’re not meant to match. We’re meant to belong. Just like every crayon in the box brings something different to the picture, every person in the church brings something essential to the Kingdom.

Our differences aren’t a problem to fix—they’re a design to celebrate. The same God who made toddlers giggle and teens ask deep questions also made quiet thinkers, outspoken leaders, gentle servants, and creative minds. And He called all of us good. Psalm 139 says we are fearfully and wonderfully made, and that includes the parts of ourselves that don’t look like anyone else. So today, may we see one another the way God does—not as mismatched pieces, but as a beautiful, diverse body brought together on purpose, for His purpose.

With love,

Shayna Franson
