A Powerful Prayer
There is power in prayer! When we pray, we are speaking with the creator of the universe, and sometimes even asking Him to do something for us. Prayer is a powerful statement that not only do we believe God can move supernaturally to affect our lives, but also that He loves us enough that He will.
Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians is becoming one of my favorites. It is a powerful prayer where Paul sincerely asks that the Ephesian people have a deep and sustaining understanding of God’s love.
“For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord's holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” [Eph 3:14-21 NIV]
First Paul prays that God will strengthen them with power through his Spirit inside of them. As physical beings, it’s so easy to forget that we need to tend to our souls. And who better to strengthen our souls than the Holy Spirit, who lives in us once we accept Christ?
The second thing Paul asks for is that the Ephesians will be able to understand something that is incomprehensible...the deep love of Christ! When we truly grasp this love, our hearts will be full and we can live out of the overflow of His love.
Lastly, Paul reminds them that God can do way more than we could ask or imagine, and he prays for God to be glorified.
God is way more powerful than we think.
He can provide us with the strength we need to live.
His love is deeper than any love we can experience here on earth.
