Fear and the Father
Ezra had a routine checkup this week with his pediatrician. Now, I’m sure Ezra is not unique in the fact that he hates going to the doctor’s office. The moment we walk into the building there is an immediate panic. And that panic only worsens when we go back to the room with the doctor. He begins to cry, beg to be held, and refuses to let go when you pick him up. The doctor scares him, and when he’s scared, fear guides his every action.
Fear has a way of creeping in when we feel most vulnerable – when the future is uncertain, when danger feels close, or when we’re simply overwhelmed by life. But even in those moments of fear, God promises His presence and protection.
Psalm 91:4 says, “He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.” What a beautiful image – like a mother bird sheltering her young, God gathers us close to His heart, shielding us with His love and faithfulness.
Fear may not always disappear right away, but God doesn’t leave us alone in it. He walks with us through it.
Isaiah 41:10 reminds us: “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
So, when you’re scared, don’t let your first reaction to be panic and fear, go to God in prayer. You don’t need perfect words – just a heart that turns to Him. Trust that He sees, He hears, and He covers you with peace that surpasses understanding. His protection might not always look like a shield from all trouble, but it’s the promise that you are never alone.
In Him,
Jamey
