Marriage Ministry

Strong marriages build strong families—which build strong churches

Marriage is one of the most beautiful gifts God has given us. We, at Southwest, believe that the love relationship between a man and a woman, as husband and wife, should provide the best representation of Christ's love for us. The model it provides to children, the church, and the world can effectively draw others to the love of Christ.

We also believe that all couples, no matter what stage they are in, should constantly be working to strengthen their marriages. Satan would like nothing more than for couples to become complacent and grow apart. Couples have to lean upon each other for guidance, wisdom, and encouragement. The Marriage Ministry team at Southwest is committed to providing resources to couples to help them grow closer to each other and to God.

Marriage isn't a 50/50 relationship. It is more like a 100/100 relationship. This means each spouse needs to be wholeheartedly devoted to the marriage instead of keeping score. Philippians 2:3-4 tells us:

'Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.'

Matthew 22:36-40 is also a great reminder for us as it talks about the greatest commandment:

'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'

Both of these verses can help us remember what our priorities should be and where we need to be focusing our energy to have successful marriages.

The Marriage Ministry team thanks you for making your marriage a priority. Marriage is one of the greatest gifts God has given us.
